● The Zardoz Group does not collect personal information through ConvertDroid. Your history, favorites, and settings stay on your device. If you use the free, ad-supported version, Google processes some data to show ads, as described below.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes the data practices of the ConvertDroid mobile application ("App"), developed and published by The Zardoz Group LLC ("we", "us", or "our"). ConvertDroid is available on iOS (Apple App Store) and Android (Google Play Store).

This policy applies to ConvertDroid version 2.70.0 and later. From version 2.70.0, ConvertDroid is free to download and shows ads, with an optional one-time purchase to remove them. Earlier, paid versions of ConvertDroid do not show ads.

2. Who This Policy Affects

How the App handles data depends on which of these groups you are in:

  • You bought ConvertDroid before it became free. Your App stays ad-free permanently. For you, the App never requests ads, never shows a consent message, and never starts Google's advertising or consent software.

    To recognize you, the App checks on your device how it was first acquired. On iOS, it reads your App Store purchase record, which may involve Apple's App Store. On Android, it reads the App's install date. On iOS, Apple may contact the App Store to provide that purchase record (see Section 8). Otherwise the App makes no store or advertising connections for you.

  • You bought "Remove Ads". You see no ads.
  • Everyone else is an ad-supported user. Sections 5 and 6 apply to you.

3. Information We Collect

The Zardoz Group does not collect personal information through ConvertDroid. The App has no server of its own and sends nothing to us.

When ads are shown, Google processes some data, as described in Section 5. That data goes to Google, not to us.

If you email us for support, we receive whatever you choose to send, such as your email address and, if you ask us to recover an Android purchase, your Google Play order number. We use it only to answer your request.

4. Data Stored on Your Device

ConvertDroid stores certain information locally on your device to provide its features:

  • Your conversion history (the values and units you have converted).
  • Your favorite units and categories.
  • Your in-app preferences (e.g., display settings).
  • The result of the check that recognizes customers who paid for the App (see Section 8).
  • For ad-supported users, your advertising consent choice, which Google's consent SDK stores (see Section 6).

Your conversion history, favorites, and settings are never transmitted to us or to any third party. You can delete the data the App stores by clearing the App's storage or uninstalling the App.

5. Advertising (Google AdMob)

This section applies only to ad-supported users.

ConvertDroid shows ads from Google AdMob, using the Google Mobile Ads SDK. It also uses Google's User Messaging Platform SDK to ask for consent where required (see Section 6).

The App requests non-personalized ads only. It does not ask Google for ads based on your interests or profile.

Non-personalized ads still involve Google processing some data, including:

  • Device identifiers. On Android, this includes the advertising ID. On iOS, the SDK uses device-level identifiers, but not Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA), because the App never asks for tracking permission (App Tracking Transparency).
  • Your IP address, from which Google may infer your approximate location.
  • Information about the ads shown to you and your interactions with them.

Google uses this data for purposes such as serving and measuring ads, limiting how often you see the same ad (frequency capping), and preventing fraud and abuse.

On Android, the SDK also declares access to Android's advertising-related system features: the advertising ID and Android's Privacy Sandbox ad APIs. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's Android settings.

Ads are limited to general-audience content, with a maximum content rating of PG.

The Zardoz Group does not receive or store this advertising data. To learn how Google uses it, see:

6. Consent and Your Privacy Choices

  • European Economic Area, UK, and Switzerland: before any ads load, ad-supported users are asked for consent through Google's consent message.
  • US states with applicable privacy laws (such as California): where required, you are shown Google's US state regulations message, with the option to opt out.
  • Privacy choices: where the law requires it, the App's Settings screen includes a Privacy choices entry, so you can review or change your choice at any time.

If you decline consent, Google may still show limited ads, as described in Google's policies. If the consent check itself fails, the App loads no ads for that session. The App remains fully usable either way.

Your consent choice is stored on your device by Google's consent SDK.

7. The "Remove Ads" Purchase

ConvertDroid offers an optional one-time in-app purchase, "Remove Ads", that removes all ads.

  • Payment is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). The Zardoz Group never sees your payment card or billing details.
  • The App receives only confirmation from the store that the purchase exists, and uses it on your device to turn ads off.
  • "Restore purchases" asks the store for that confirmation again.

8. Recognizing Customers Who Paid for the App

To keep customers who bought ConvertDroid before it became free ad-free, the App checks, on your device, when you first got the App:

  • iOS: the App reads the App Store's own purchase record for the App.
  • Android: the App reads the date it was installed.

This check happens on your device. On Android, the App reads its install date. On iOS, the App asks Apple's StoreKit for the App Store's record of how you acquired the App; Apple may contact the App Store to get or update that record. Nothing is sent to The Zardoz Group, and the result is stored only on your device.

If you bought ConvertDroid on Google Play before it became free and the App shows ads, email us at support@zardozgroup.com with your Google Play order number.

9. Permissions

iOS: the App does not ask for access to your camera, microphone, location, contacts, calendar, or photos, and it never asks for tracking permission (App Tracking Transparency).

Android: ConvertDroid 2.70.0 declares the following permissions.

Declared by ConvertDroid itself:

  • Internet access (INTERNET): lets the App load ads for ad-supported users and talk to Google Play for the Remove Ads purchase.
  • Google Play billing (com.android.vending.BILLING): lets the App offer and restore the Remove Ads purchase through Google Play.

Added by Google's advertising software (Google Mobile Ads SDK):

  • Network state (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): lets the advertising software check whether the device is online before requesting an ad.
  • Advertising ID (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID): lets Google's advertising software read the device's advertising ID, which you can reset or delete in Android settings.
  • Android ad services (ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_ATTRIBUTION, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_TOPICS): let Google's advertising software use Android's Privacy Sandbox advertising features where the device supports them and you have not turned them off. The App requests non-personalized ads only.
  • Keep awake and background work (WAKE_LOCK, FOREGROUND_SERVICE): let Google's software finish short background tasks, such as sending information it has already collected.

Added by other Android libraries the App uses:

  • Install referrer (BIND_GET_INSTALL_REFERRER_SERVICE): added by a library the App uses to read its install date. The App does not read the install referrer (how you found the App).
  • Internal receiver protection (com.zardozgroup.convertdroid.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION): a technical permission Android libraries use to keep the App's internal messages private to the App. It grants no access to data.

None of these permissions gives the App access to your contacts, photos, location, microphone, or camera. These permissions are present for every user because they are part of the App, but for users who bought the App before it became free, or who bought Remove Ads, the App does not start Google's advertising software.

10. Third-Party Services

ConvertDroid uses these third-party services:

  • Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK and User Messaging Platform SDK), for ad-supported users only. See Sections 5 and 6.
  • Apple App Store and Google Play in-app purchasing, for the "Remove Ads" purchase. See Section 7.

ConvertDroid does not include analytics, crash-reporting, or social SDKs.

11. Data Security

The Zardoz Group has no server for ConvertDroid, so no App data is stored on our systems. The only personal information we hold is what you choose to send us by email. Data the App stores stays in the App's private storage on your device, protected by your device's operating system. Data that Google processes to show ads is handled under Google's policies (see Section 5), and payment details are handled by Apple or Google (see Section 7).

12. Your Rights in the European Economic Area, UK, and Switzerland

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, you have rights over your personal information, including the right to:

  • access it;
  • correct it;
  • delete it;
  • restrict its processing;
  • object to its processing;
  • receive a copy of it in a portable format; and
  • withdraw your consent at any time.

To withdraw or change your consent for ads, open the App's Settings screen and choose Privacy choices.

The Zardoz Group holds personal information about you only if you have emailed us (see Section 3). To make a request about that information, email us at support@zardozgroup.com. For requests about the data Google processes to show ads, you may also contact Google directly; see the Google Privacy Policy.

The Zardoz Group is responsible for the personal information you send us by email. For the data processed to show ads, Google acts as an independent controller; Google's Privacy Policy explains how it handles that data.

Where the law requires consent, the App asks for it through Google's consent message. If you decline, Google may still show limited ads; Google may rely on its own legal bases for its processing, as described in its Privacy Policy. When you email us, we process your message on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering it.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, such as the authority in your country of residence, the UK Information Commissioner's Office, or the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.

13. Your Rights Under US State Privacy Laws

Some US states, such as California, give residents the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of their personal information for advertising.

If you see ads in the App and live in a state whose law gives you this right, the App shows a Privacy choices entry in its Settings screen. Use it to see Google's US state regulations message and to opt out. The choice is stored on your device by Google's consent software, so it applies to the App on that device.

If you do not see ads, the App does not send information to Google for advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.

If you need help, email us at support@zardozgroup.com. We will explain how to use the Privacy choices setting. We cannot change the setting on your device for you. The Zardoz Group itself does not receive the data Google uses to show ads.

14. Children's Privacy

ConvertDroid is not directed at children under the age of 13. Ads shown in the App are limited to general-audience content (maximum rating PG). The Zardoz Group does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction).

15. Changes to This Policy

If our data practices change, we will update this Privacy Policy and revise the dates at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
